Healthy Eating - Simple For Summer

Eating healthy gives your body the nutrients it needs daily while staying within your daily calorie goal for weight loss or maintenance. It will also lower your risk for heart disease and other health conditions.

A Healthy Eating Plan:

V  Include lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, and nuts

V  Limit saturated and trans-fats, sodium, and added sugars

V  Control portion sizes

Calories - Less In...

To lose weight, decrease the number of calories from food and drinks - Energy IN, and increase physical activity & exercise - Energy OUT.

To lose 1–1 ½ pounds per week, daily intake should be reduced by 500 to 750 calories.

Avoid crash diets and work towards healthy eating choices and smaller portion sizes.

Read....

30 Minutes a Day

Each summer, the City School District encourages students to choose a book and read 30 minutes per day. Every day.

The Health Ministry at Mt. Olivet supports this initiative.  We also encourage everyone, Adults - Children -Students,  to join the initiative by choosing a book and committing to reading it over the summer recess.

Why read?

Reading can help to develop your verbal skills, improve your focus, reduce stress and improve your memory.  So, visit the Little Lending Library to see if there's a book that might interest you.  It's simple, take a book to read, leave a book to share.

God bless, Sis. Shirlyn, Health Ministry Chair
