Healthy Eating - Simple Eating for Summer

Eating healthy gives your body the nutrients it needs daily while staying within your daily calorie goal for weight loss or maintenance.   It will also lower your risk for heart disease and other health conditions.

A Healthy Eating Plan:

§  Eat more vegetables, fruits, whole grains, salads and fat-free or low-fat dairy products

§ Includes lean meats, poultry, fish, beans, and nuts

§  Limits saturated and trans fats, sodium, and added sugars

§  Controls portion sizes

Calories - Less In.....

To Lose Weight:

V  DECREASE the number of calories from food and drinks, Energy IN

And

V  INCREASE physical activity & exercise, Energy OUT

To Lose 1–1 ½ pounds per week:

V  REDUCE daily intake by 500 to 750 calories

Avoid:

V  CRASH Diets and work towards Healthy Eating Choices and Smaller Portion sizes

Congratulations - Paula Gerst, was named Teacher of the Year at Gildersleeve Middle School in Newport News, VA.  The Mt. Olivet Family wants to congratulate her on an  outstanding accomplishment!

Vacation Bible School - The Board of Christian Education announces that Vacation Bible School, VBS, will be held on:

 August 8th - 12th, 9am-3:30pm

$25.00 Registration Fee to Offset the Cost

Registration will begin next week on Sunday, July 3, 2016 in Whitaker Hall.  Please watch this space in the coming weeks for further updates. Volunteers Needed, Van Drivers - The Mount Olivet Van Ministry needs drivers. Help make an impact by volunteering to drive one Sunday a month. You need to be at least 21 years old and have a valid NY driver’s license. If you want to make a difference, please contact Ernest Hicks at 425-4088 or Norman Strothers at 732-4666.

Youth Participation, We Need You! - Parents and youth please consider getting involved in Mt. Olivet's Youth Ministry.  Parents we need your ideas and help to keep our youth grounded in God’s word.  There will be a sign up table after church throughout this month. Thursday Tutoring Program, Mt. Olivet's ABW Ministries -

The American Baptist Women’s Ministry is pleased to announce the Tutoring Program. Sign up your children to participate! The focus will be on improving reading skills and completing homework. Tutoring is every Thursday from 6pm to 7:30pm. See you on Thursday!

AB Girls Ministries - There will be monthly meetings  on the fourth,4th, Sunday at the lower level of the church immediately following worship in the lower level of the church. Children's Academy - This meeting will meet occur 2nd and 4th Sunday!
