2014 Healthy Family Tips


§  Worship and pray together.  Find a ministry and serve.

§  Remind teens to avoid texting & other distractions while driving.

§  Develop family rules about safe behaviors using electronic media.

§  Eat healthy meals and snacks. Drink more water.

§  Encourage and support daily physical activity. Avoid smoking and illicit drug use.  

§  Gather and share family health history. Avoid smoking and illicit drug use.

§  Encourage family members to get check-ups, screenings & vaccinations.

Limited Janitorial Services

Due to the limited support of Janitorial Services, all committees are asked to please take down the table and chairs that are used on Sunday for sign-up activities.

Volunteer to Serve, Slate of Candidates - The 2015 Nominating Committee is seeking members to volunteer to serve in a variety of leadership positions as described in the Mt. Olivet Constitution. Interested members are invited to please stop at the Nominating Commit-tee table after service to learn about the positions and responsibilities. The slate of candidates will be posted November 30th, so please don't delay in expressing your interest to serve the church as we complete 2014: The Year of Solidarity and move forward to 2015.

Special Thanks  - We would like to say thank you to every-one who helped us make the Homecoming/Church Anniversary celebration a HUGE success. The decorations, culinary, music, all the participants in the programs, photos, hosts & hostesses, ushers, the entire Mt. Olivet congregation and more came together wonderfully. God is such a great God!! We received great messages that day that should carry us on in the coming days. Thank you, Thank you, Thank You. Much love & praise to you all. The 2014 chairpersons, the Mitchells and Smalls.

alzheimer's Walk  - Thanks to all of the donors and participants of the 2014 Mount Olivet’s Alzheimer’s Walk, we raised a total of $2,981 to date.  We are forever grateful for all of your hard work and donations made for this very worthy cause.  We can and will continue to make a difference in the fight to find a cure.  Please continue to support our Ministry here at Mount Olivet.

annie, The Movie  - Let’s go see “ANNIE” with Jamie Fox, Quvenzhané Wallis and Cameron Diaz to name a few. Tickets are $10 and we will be attending the December 21st showing of the movie immediately after church. If you are interested in attending or sponsoring Angel tickets please see Michelle Bealle or Valerie Medley in Whitaker Hall after service.

Donations needed, Bethlehem Village Store - The Youth Core Committee needs re-gifted and purchased items for our store. Donate items during the month of November. The store will open during the first week in December. Please leave items on the back pew in the old sanctuary. Please help the youth with this fundraiser.

Volunteers Needed, Bethlehem Village Store  - We are setting up a Bethlehem Village Store for Christmas. We want to open the store on December 1st and need volunteers. Please call the church office at 232-6742 if you can volunteer. Irene Ingram

Tickets Still Available, Apollo Theatre -  Great News! Tickets are still available for the The Winter Enrichment Trip to Apollo Theatre in NYC is fast approaching! Tickets are still available. The cost is $150.00 for wonderful fun filled day in New York including an amazing Ellington Experience at the historic Apollo Theater.  Please see Michelle Bealle for details.

Mt. Olivet's American Baptist Women - American Baptist Women of Mt. Olivet will be hosting a homework and tutoring program beginning December 4th. It will commence right after the first report cards!   Our theme is from 2nd Timothy, 2:15, “study to show thyself approved.”   

We are reaching out to the children in the church as well as children on Van Auker across the street from the church. This is a very special mission to serve in Solidarity with our community and to provide a much needed service. Sign up your children.  We are providing for 25 students maximum in Whitaker Hall after service.  Men, women and teens are invited to sign up to serve as tutors.   Gayle Harrison, ABW Mission and Service Coordinator

AB Girls Ministries - Reminder that young ladies 8-17, grades 3rd to 12th, will meeting every 2nd and 4th Sunday directly after church.  The meeting time will last two (2) hours. We are still accepting and open for young ladies to join us. We are also still accepting volunteers who enjoy working with young ladies. Mt. Olivet Baptist Church 12th Grade Program - High School Seniors who attend Mount Olivet are invited to participate in a program designed especially for them. The purpose is for spiritual growth; to gain crucial knowledge which will assist with life situations; and to fellowship in fun gatherings with other high school seniors, through monthly meetings. Children's Academy - This meeting will meet occur 2nd and 4th Sunday! All children will be dismissed immediately following the morning Hymn.

All parents please stop by the Youth Ministry table in the fellowship hall to update contact information. We want to keep everyone informed of all the wonderful upcoming events.

Sunday School  - Why should I come to Sunday School and bring my children and grandchildren? ...because it is easier to build strong Christian children than it is to repair broken men and women.  Help build a better church…a better community…a better world.
