November - American Diabetes Month

The Basics

You can do a lot to prevent or delay getting type 2 diabetes including:
V Watching your weight – maintain a healthy weight for your height.
V Eating healthy - less fat, carbohydrates and cholesterol; smaller portion sizes.
V Staying active - exercise 4 or more days per week to burn more calories than

you consume.

Diabetes is one of the leading causes of disability and death in the United States. If it’s not controlled, diabetes can cause serious health problems.

Condolences - Mrs. Emma Jackson, Mr. Charlie Grant, and Mrs. Monica Bakou  loss of their brother and uncle, Mr. Willie Fred Grant. The funeral was held on Saturday, Nov. 14, 2015, at the New Oak Groves Missionary Baptist Church in Boston, Georgia.  Please keep the family in prayer.

Alzheimer's Workshop is Cancelled - The Alzheimer's Ministry Presentation,  "Being A Healthy Caregiver" for Monday, November 16, 2015 at 6:30PM, has been cancelled.

An Opportunity To Serve, New Slate of Officers - It is that time to consider taking on a leadership role within the church. There are many opportunities for you to serve and names can be submitted for any position.

The nominating committee will review the names submitted in order to prepare a Slate of Officers prior to the December Business meeting. If you are interested or want to submit someone’s name please give the information to Dr. Venessa Mitchell or Audrey Davidson.

Members of the nominating committee will have a table after the morning worship service on November 15th. Prior to the 15th, anyone interested in submitting their name for consideration can go to the church office during regular business hours to submit it.   You will be provided with  a list of the responsibilities/tasks of the various positions so you can make an informed decision. Bethlehem Village Store, Items Needed -  It is the Time of the year where the Youth Ministry Core Team prepares to open the Bethlehem Village Store for the holidays. Proceeds from the sales will go directly to support the 2016 Youth Trip to Washington, DC.   This is where You, the congregation, enter the picture.  We need you to donate items to the Store's Inventory.  Many items are needed.  Inventory thought starters are:

 Cards - Books - Christmas Ornaments - Angels - etc.

Please leave your items in the last pew on the right of the old sanctuary.   The Youth Core Team members will store the items until time for the store's  Dec. 5th Grand Opening.  Thank you, Youth Ministry Core Team.

Turkeys for Thanksgiving - The Mt. Olivet Food Pantry Ministry in partnership with the Men's Fellowship would like to bless those families and individuals who are served by this ministry during this holiday season, by providing them turkeys. Please contact Larry or Esther Cresswell if you are able participate in this effort.

Youth Participation, We Need You! - Parents and youth please consider getting involved in Mt. Olivet's Youth Ministry.  Parents we need your ideas and help to keep our youth grounded in God’s word.  There will be a sign up table after church throughout this month. There are many areas that you can participate and serve.  Some are:

Arts & Crafts Ministry, Invitation - Join us! If you love to crochet and knit or want to learn how, join us on Wednesday, 12:00 noon to 2 PM each week in the Whitaker Hall. Bring your lunch! We eat, work and fellowship. Our mission and outreach is to provide handmade lap blankets, prayer shawls, scarves and hats to various groups and individuals. Thursday Tutoring Program, Mt. Olivet's ABW Ministries -

The American Baptist Women’s Ministry is pleased to announce the Tutoring Program. Sign up your children to participate! The focus will be on improving reading skills and completing homework. Tutoring is every Thursday from 6pm to 7:30pm. See you on Thursday!

“Reach For The Stars”

Tutoring for students in grades 1 thru 5 are welcome to come and receive support in homework and improving reading skills on Thursday’s from 6PM—7:30PM, Lower Level. Please see Gayle Harrison or send email to  for any questions.

AB Girls Ministries - There will be monthly meetings  on the fourth,4th, Sunday at the lower level of the church immediately following worship in the lower level of the church. Young Ladies in grades 3 – 12 are asked to participate.

Children's Academy - This meeting will meet occur 2nd and 4th Sunday! All children will be dismissed immediately following the morning Hymn.   All parents please stop by the Youth Ministry table in the fellowship hall to update contact information. We want to keep everyone informed of all the wonderful upcoming events.
